Student Design Contest Update
The AP-S Education Committee received 16 entries for the new AP-S Student Design Contest. The first round of judging is complete, and we are pleased to announce that the following six semi-finalist teams have been selected to receive US$1500 each to build and test an antenna demonstration system intended to foster enthusiasm among students new to the field of antennas and propagation:Marco Pasian and Francesco Giuppi, at Università degli Studi di Pavia, Pavia, Italy.
Brent Bauman, Andrew Christianson, and Andrew Wegener at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA.
Michael Civerolo and Alex Hempy at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, USA.
Tom Campie, Blake Marshall, and Andrew Anderson at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana, USA.
Beatriz Monsalve, Irena Calafell, Marta Guardiola, and Gemma Roqueta at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain.
Courtney Drewski, Santiago Hässig, Jayson Jenkins, Rodrigo Quinteros, and Matthew Trotter at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The teams have until May 1, 2010 to complete the assembly of their equipment and submit a final report. Next, each team will demonstrate their working system to the Education Committee via an internet video link. The Committee will then select three finalists by June 1, 2010 to receive funding to travel to the AP-S Symposium in Toronto, where final judging will take place. The first, second, and third prize winners will be announced at the symposium.
